We are thrilled to announce that the German Research Foundation (DFG) has agreed to award the Collaborative Research Centre TRR 228 Future Rural Africa funding for another four years. The third and final project phase will begin in 2026 and last until the end of 2029.

Britta Klagge from the University of Bonn is the CRC’s designated spokesperson for the third phase, after Michael Bollig (University of Cologne) held the position during the second project phase (2022-2025).
Apart from the Universities of Bonn and Cologne, the interdisciplinary research network also includes the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC), the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), the University of the Western Cape, the Charité at Humboldt University in Berlin, the University of Potsdam, and the Futurium Museum in Berlin, as well as numerous cooperation partners in Eastern and Southern Africa.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the German Research Foundation (DFG) and to everyone who has contributed to the success of our project since its inception in 2018, and during the on-site review in July 2025.
