Gideon Tups, Richard Mbunda, Moses Ndunguru and Peter Dannenberg (Project C01 “Future in Chains”) have recently been awarded the Best Paper Award by the Standort Journal for Applied Geography. The authors received the award during the Geography Connect Convention in Osnabrück for their research on Multiple crises and global production networks: new soy partnerships between China and Tanzania under the Belt and Road Initiative. The article examines Chinaās growing soybean trade with Tanzania through the Belt and Road Initiative. The authors argue that global crises have pushed China to seek new African suppliers, while Tanzania sees this as an opportunity to transform its agricultural sector.

The article is based on research undertaken in our sub-project C01 “Future in Chains” and features Future Rural Africa researchers from the universities of Cologne, Dar es Salaam and Mzumbe University.
