Dr Anja Linstädter’s take on Australian Bushfires

Principal Investigator of CRC Future Rural Africa Dr. Anja Linstädter was interviewed by the General-Anzeiger Bonn. The interview was published online on January 7, titled “Welche Folgen die Buschbrände für das Ökosystem haben”.  Within Future Rural Africa, Dr. Linstädter heads the vegetation ecology team on carbon storage in savanna systems (Future Carbon Storage – project A01 within the CRC). Among other disturbance agents, her work also focuses on biomass losses through wildfires and their impacts on ecosystem functioning as well as carbon cycling.

On the occasion of severe recent bushfires in Australia, Dr. Linstädter commented on the links between global climate change, extreme ecological events, human disturbance, and joint impact of these factors on flora and fauna. She was also asked about the implications and future scenarios for fire-adapted ecosystems and global carbon storage.

The interview, conducted in German, was published in print as well as online on the website of General-Anzeiger Bonn.
